The teller who reportedly had $90 in halves yesterday had only $70 in CWRs today...nuttin but common Cu-Ni clad.

I stopped at another bank and the head teller said they had “hundreds of dollars worth of machine rolled halves”, but wouldn’t tell me how much. So, I bought the maximum amount I could without a coin handling fee, which was $200. Only 1 impaired ‘83S proof in these rolls.

I’m unimpressed, but I’m considering buying the remainder of the MWRs tomorrow.

    Good luck everyone!

No hunting this week. Incredibly busy. I only got three boxes last week because things are so busy, but I did pull one dime last week, to continue my streak of no weeks this year with zero silver. I thought it was going to end this week, because I know I want have time to even hunt one box, but yesterday at the Coinstar I found a silver dime. So the streak goes on.

@bhh, I know this hobby can get discouraging, but the best we can do to increase our finds is keep trying! GL

    nickel box last week. finally got a good one: 1898 v nickel with full date, 3 silver 43p, 44p, 45p; 39p, 40p, 40s, 6x 41p, 42p, 2x 47p, 2x 48p, 3x 49p, 2x 53p, 53d, 53s, 54d, 54s, 55p, 57p, 2x 57d, 58p, 6x 58d, 2x 59d.

40 keepers, a new record for 1 box. I will provide scans once my desk top is repaired, assuming it can be repaired for free.

Nice to find a 1898 V nickel! Great to hear there is some still out there.

The box had the feel of having a part of someone's spent collection. It was heavy in pre-1980 nickels. I am skeptical of the reported finds on here... but I did find that v nickel, my 1st one! now if I could finish up with a 50d, 38s and 43d, that'd finish the set and prove to me that it can be done!

Not unless they are MS. I've got way more than I want. Now, I don't keep them anymore unless they are in respectable condition. Still haven't found the '73 or '77 DDO's so if you run across either of those I'll take them in any condition ;)

Most of my NFIC's are MS. When I first started roll hunting (over a decade ago) I pulled many. I did it for a couple of years until the pickins' kept getting slimmer and slimmer. I had gotten spoiled by finding silver at easily 20-30% per box. Some even crazy higher percentages. I have accumulated quite a bit by that time so I was happy. I quit permanently when it became MAYBE one or two per box. Like I said, I was spoiled and the hassle by the banks and all the driving killed it for me. As for the MS NFIC's? Yeah, I have mucho many of those. Probably too many. The DDO's I can only say maybe I may have some luck there too. I say 'maybe' as my talents at identifying true DD's is marginal and I haven't sat down to go through the piles of what I kept and tucked away. I started trying to identify them and have a fair amount of them I originally thought were DD's but have since gone into a 'maybe' pile. Until I get better at identification I don't feel like spending the time going through them only to find 'maybes'.

Four banks tonight had $7.50 loose halves, which yielded 2, 40%; $20 CWR halves , which yielded nothing; and, $400 MWR halves, which are from a source that is historically without silver so I’m not excited to search them. I’d rather repair the 2 broken toilets in my house tonight than search rolls from this particular source, so I think toilets are in my near future!:shame:

Turned out my usual 2 box order was missed this week, but my order bank was apologetic and promised they would order 2 for me to arrive next week. I told them it’s all good and thanked them for being helpful :D

The $400 in MWRs held 2 impaired proofs...Pretty terrible, as I suspected. I’m done searching for this week. GL everyone!

A 2003^^ NIFC without a scratch or scuff mark is rarer than silver or '70's DDO's for me. I have several MS coins from the 70's. In fact I have found nice proofs are more common. It's like they scratch more easily than the older years.

Well I have acquired many NIFC's in mint or near mint condition and will happily accept exchange of their silver counterparts for a good percentage of them should you decide you would like to do so. Too many. I pulled anything odd or flashy aside and stashed them when I first got into the hobby. Now I have piles to go through. Maybe the boy will go through them after I'm gone.

@Prez2, I have also accumulated more MS NIFC, proofs (including impaired), errors, and common year halves in MS condition than I care to admit. I cannot bear to send these back into the wild and allow the MS coins to get dinged or the impaired coins to get more damaged than they already are!

I have educated my kids about the true value of US silver coins, so I am not concerned about them foolishly spending them or depositing them for FV. When I am gone and my kids discover I have not only plastic tubes of silver coins in my safe, but also hundreds of paper rolls filled with the above coins, then I believe at least they will see the rolls as a savings account, deposit them, and buy something nice for themselves. I hope they enjoy whatever they buy. My feelings won't be hurt because I won't be around to see it! :D

    Happy Hunting all

Yeah I'm thinking about putting a clause in my will to not allow liquidation of them in any fashion before age 30 because I would be really bummed if they got sent out into the wild again and somebody else enjoyed the fruits of my labor. It will be their choice I suppose so, like you say I we won't be here anyway so.

I have finished the Jefferson book and found about 15 V nickels...plus many buffalos. War nickels and buffalos run about 1 per box, but V nickels are much more difficult to find.

I am a lurker here but a reader of this list for years. edited Annie but this is a true story. Years ago I went to the bank and got $20 in cents. While going thru then I saw one that looked a little "funny". Turned out to be a 1955/1955 in XF - AU. After I changed my pants I went out and sold it to my local coin dealer for $200! I kick myself every day <damn damn damn>. Must have needed the money for something silly like the mortgage.

I'll try to remember to keep them separate next time. Unless they're something going into a flip, the wheats just get dumped into containers separated by decade as I'm searching them

    $20 CWR Cents: 40, 44 (x2), 54, 56 (x2), 57, 58-D (x2)

$150 CWR Nickels: 43-P (x2) and 24 other assorted dates from 40-59. Also pulled a 1980-D in really rough shape that appears to be an off center.

    $450 CWR Dimes: Skunk
