My wife was given this small "California Gold" coin many years ago, it has re-surfaced and I can't find any information on it, found some but never this exact coin, would like to know if it is real or a nice repro.....pictures are not great but no other camera options right now...thanks in advance for any clues...
Considered a token. http://numismaclub.com/unt/160437-1859_california_gold_token___round_indian_with_star.html
There is a lot of information on Mike Locke's site although it hasn't been updated in several years. Some links are dead but there are several links within links that show several different styles. A few similar to yours, none dated 1859 but close. Some were made from brass to gold. http://www.calgoldcoin.com
Thank you very much for the link, I have seen this page in my quest but as you said my "Token" was not present....I must admit I never thought "Token" to search way back when....cheers!
Anyone looking for detailed information on California fractional gold, I have been specializing in this area for over 45 years and love to share what I have learned. Unfortunately, this token is a more modern brass token and worth a few dollars as I believe a previous poster may have pointed out.
Thanks very much, it is the person that gave us the token which makes it worth more that gold to us. But really happy to know a bit about it. Thanks again!!
