I am also glad that you bought it. It is a nice solid coin for an attractive price. As you can tell from this thread I like coins of Galba. I am another that would welcome that coin.
keep in mind there is much variation even within the Rome mint. Consider these 2 Rome mint examples. the coins of Galba are extremely interesting for the variation in portraits.
I guess I should join the party and post my Galba as! Sometime I'd like to add one with a nice bouncer portrait style such as many of you have.
Now that is one of the most unusual Galba portraits I have ever seen! and I have seen a few. As many of you have noted, Tarraco produced not only portrait styles that are markedly different from those of the mint at Rome, but apparently, also many variations of it. Some almost 'imperial' in style, and yet some that look like the dies were produced by very inexperienced hands. The spectrum is so wide, that I wonder sometimes if there was not another mint in Hispania besides Tarraco. Here is my Galba denarius of Spanish origin, a type which as yet still seems to be unique (although I have recently spotted a similar example which helps confirm its authenticity).
Gavin, I think that you made the right decision purchasing this Galba. It has a nice style and a distinctive portrait. A Galba in every sense. The quality of the planchet is in-line or better than most for what you paid. This is my example of the type:
@Eduard I was hoping that you would post a photo of that coin. It emphasizes the point of the extensive variation in portrait styles under Galba. I have not seen you posting in a while, it is good to see you back here.
