I had been eyeballing this coin all week. I noted that this was the Large O variety and possibly something going on with the date, so I was looking forward to snagging this. I was also ready with a high bid because I've wanted one of these (an 1839 H10C) for a long time with this look. It sat at $27 all day. It was at $60 with 3 seconds left. Then with one second left when I bid it jumped to $3,453. Good grief... too rich for my blood. Maybe @Paddy54, @C-B-D or @ToughCOINS could shed some light on what just happened here. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1839-O-Sea...vip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137
Wow. I actually have bought from that seller too. He sold me my first capped bust type coin back when I was fairly new.
Someone really wanted a large "O" variety! 39 o in vf a $100.00 coin.mintage is over a million.....I'll need to look this one up...
Sounds like a power struggle that had nothing to do with coins. The adreniline rush must have been awesome.
There’s gotta be something else going on there if three separate people bid that high though? Maybe the CircCam premium has finally caught on!
Thanks for solving the puzzle. Crazy... I guess I was three watchful pairs of eyes away from a total score. Always nice to see the numismatic pulse alive and well in any case.
I thought I was sneaky bidding $125. Then reality backhanded me three times simultaneously. Though that’s gotta feel better than the guy who thought he was getting a $3k+ coin for $60 until the very last second. > > > ...... *loading*..... >
