On both sides has no print on it. The reason I know it's a 2007 is because I opened up a couple machine rolled pennies and everyone of them were 2007. And yes it weighs 2.5 a zinc.
Cool find. It's not unplated or un-printed, it's a blank unstruck planchett error. No way to say what year it is.
You're right in that it is probably a 2007 if the entire rolls are solid 2007s. Only way to know for sure is if you got them directly from the mint that way. That being said, it's a cool find. I've only found 4 or 5 blank planchets.
The U.S. Mint gave out free unstruck current cent planchettes, indistinguishable from yours, to every attendee that bought a World Mint Passport at Philly. This year's WMP sold for $6.
Nope, your piece has been "upset", ergo, planchet. Remember? "What did the blank say to the planchet?" "Dude, what's wrong? You look upset!"
The ADJECTIVE "blank" may apply, but the NOUN "blank" does not. The raised edge makes it a planchet and NOT a "blank" (noun), per se.
A dollar or two, usually. They used to be worth more until the Mint started using them as promotional items. Older bronze ones still do bring more. We have at least one member, @JCro57, who is VERY serious about collecting them.
You know it is a 2007 because you opened the roll, but now that it is opened there is no way to prove it came from that roll or to prove to anyone else that is really is a 2007. So now it is just a copper plated zinc planchet.
OK wait... Yes it is Blank. But there are 2 types Type 1 Blank with no Upraised Rim and a Type 2 Planchet with Upraised Rim Here are the examples from my collection
If I am correct there are two types of "Blanks" and one type of Planchet. I learned that right here on Coin Talk. Yee-ha.
I don't really think of unstruck planchets as error coins. the only error that happened is that they left the mint without been struck. Some probably never even went through a press. They kinda get classified as such so they don't need one of there own. I did not find them listed on error-ref.com.
