Ok, im a EDITED: READ RULES ON LANGUAGE , let's just get that out of the way. But anyone know where this came from? I know it says "play coin" and has what looks like a cup of coffee on it but im trying to determine if it's an old game peice or gambling token, this may not be the place to ask so i apologize in advance to those preparing to fire off the complaint cannons. If you don't know save your fingers the strain of typing and I won't ask about play money again, if it was namco Pacman token I wouldn't ask .
If you google it you get a bunch of pictures of this exact token. It's apparently made of aluminum though not much more information. ==> https://en.numista.com/forum/topic61203.html probably found in those old 70/80s toy cash registers of the time.
http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/66405-thin-dime.html The "Thin Dime" play coin was part of a "Mint-O-Money" package of play coins and paper notes, which originally sold for 29¢ in the 1940's or 50's. These, along with a variety of other play money, were made by Tracies Industries of Holyoke, MA. Later, as Tracies increased the price to 89¢ and added other items to the package, Kresge's (now K-mart) began selling Japanese-made imitations of the coins, and those in turn were followed by copies made in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Ha, I never thought I'd there would be that much info about it or I'd see a dozen more of them posted on a coin forrum. You know your stuff, gotta hand it to you, appreciate it and thanks for not being to hard on me. All I need now is that Namco Pacman Token.
Is there a specific Namco token that has Pac Man on it? I have a bunch of Namco tokens. If so I'll have to check them out. But bear with me if so, because they are mixed in with about 1,000 other tokens in a bag, loose.
I've got one from 1991 with a character resembling Pacman on it, I assume that's who it is , not sure.
I apologise for the blue language, I've been known to have the mouth of a sailor ,I guess the fingers as well sometimes, I will be more respectful and watch what I type in the future, sorry again.
Nope, got it from the old man, he was raised on a farm with 7 brothers and sisters in the 1940s and 50s. A real mean motorcycle that guy.
I did poke around my tokens last night and came up with 2 dated 1991 and 18 dated 2000. I'm not positive but I think these are Namco's own branded and copyrighted character. Pac Man was owned by Atari and I would not think they would give that up considering they are re-releasing Pac man in a new console all bundled with similar older games. No more cartridges, it's all integrated into the console in the software.
That's exactly what I was wondering, he has a but of a pac man rip off vibe going on. Good looking out though man.
That's a Namco arcade token. They were made for a few years in the early 90s and there are a few different types. My other hobby is arcade hardware/cabs and the like. I have a sizable collection of arcade tokens as well as they're virtually free.
NAMCO acquired Atari in the 1970's, so it is PAC-MAN and it's legit. http://www.namcoentertainment.com/about/our-history
