    Yep, I was bored again.
Figured I'd try some different things.
    Just an 1896 Morgan here.

What's your thoughts on the grade and such ?
    :)

    LOL

If I photoshopped it, I'd take out the shadow of the camera.
    :D

Wow, that's one odd-looking photograph. Two low angle, diffused lights?

I cant tell if that is just the picture becuase it looks funky but is that a proof or DMPL?
WOW its nice though with some real clean fields

    Yes, diffused lights.
I cut the bottom out of a semi-clear plastic cup (like a kegger cup), placed it down over the coin, put a floreusant light about 10 inches away with onion paper between it and the cup, then put aluminum foil on the opposite side of the cup to bring light to the back side.

What can I say, I like to experiment with stuff like that.
    :D

GORGEOUS! Man, that is one nice Morgan. From the pics, I'd say a 66 B IMHO. But then, we don't know what the coin is like in hand. :D If it's like that, then wow. :thumb: Very nice coin you got there.

    Phoenix

Is it my eyes or your photo? The URIBUS·U looks like it is doubled.

Nope, it's just the reflection of the light source on the tops of the letters, I believe.
It does make it kind of look like that though.

    Thanks for looking.

Put the diffuser over the lights, not over the coin. You'll get much better results.

As for the grade, the bad hit on the cheek will limit it, I'd say 64.

man GDJMSP beat me to the punch. MS-64, but I'd say it's also PL. Looks good wish it where in my collection.

Even with the conspicuous nicks on the cheek, it's a 65

Having read all of the above, I still feel that it is a Gem piece.

Nice strike on that coin. The detail in the hair is awesome!

I would have to go with the 64 crowd on this one, but with a heavy heart. That is the prettiest 64 I have ever seen and well worth a premium! Mike

    I don't know, but I can't understand that being a 64.
At least a 5 if not better, assuming that it hasn't been doctored.

beautiful coin! to me it almost looks like a proof coin. if that is not the case, the photos still make it to be PL or DMPL. i would love to give the coin a 65. i certainly think the reverse is 66. if it were not for the location and apparent depths of the bagmarks on the cheek and on the tip of the nose it could go be a 66. unfortunately, due to the marks i could not go past 64 (w/ a cac sticker on it!) but that is just a grade number. that coin appears outstanding and would be a proud addition to any morgan lover's collection. thank you for sharing.....steve
