Thanks a lot @Dillan. It always feels good to hear reassuring words, especially after a rather large splurge And yes @Sallent I'll watch my back for sure But hey, a coin depicting Brutus might be next inline.
Congratulations on your purchase! As was said here before, Forvm guarantees its coins for eternity. Also, the coins do always look better in person than in the photos. I will give you example. Here is a Caligula denarius I purchased from Forvm. The first photo is the photo from Forvm the second is my photo. The coin actually looks like my photo and not the photo from Forvm.
Wow @Orfew - that is quite a difference. I suppose increasing contrast/sharpening like they seem to do at forum has the benefit of really showing all the faults and blemishes clearly. An overly honest representation one might argue
@Orfew , I love your coin but prefer the Forum pictures... and Forum pictures are usually not very flattering. Your images are lit differently/unevenly with very oblique lighting from the ~11:00 position. It enhances the relief and downplays the surfaces (although I'd prefer light from ~1:00). I'm sure your images would look closer to how I'd see it in hand for a couple of reasons. One, my near vision isn't as good as it used to be so I don't notice minor surface issues. Two, because in hand I tilt the coin to and fro and end to hold it such that the lighting is oblique... for the very reasons you shot the coin that way: it makes it look better. Anyway, @Hellbent, please don't think Forum was trying to do anything tricky with their images (nor was Orfew). Like many reputable dealers, Joe shows images which convey the most information about the coin. They aren't always the most flattering though.
Congrats on the purchase, @Hellbent! It may not have been a super bargain, but it sure is a super coin. It's hard to get a nice portrait style on these and yours is hard to beat. It may well be that for that reason it would have fetched what you paid at auction anyway. It certainly beats the pants off mine!
Hi @TIF, yes that was my impression as well. Increased contrast shows everything more clearly, both the good and the bad. I look forward to make my own photographical interpretation of the coin when I get it.
