It's been too long since a new Fallen Horseman thread was made, so I thought I would help out with a fairly new addition I picked up from @Valentinian. Doubt it's anything special to the specialists, but I just liked the look of it & some of the die breaks. Constantius Gallus, (351 - 354 A.D.) Æ2 O: DN CONSTANT-IVS NOB CAES, Bare, bust draped and cuirassed right. R: FEL TEMP RE-PARATIO, Soldier spearing fallen horseman, who is beared, bare headed, falling forward, clutching his horse.Γ in field left. ANS in exergue. Antioch Mint 4.78g 23mm RIC VIII Antioch 137
That’s a pretty nice example @Mat . I had a real devil of a time with these coins when I first started. Everyone looks the same the legends are practically identical and so are the designs. This is nice. The larger size makes for a better coin than AE3 or AE4. I am a nerd for the mintmarks combinations though.
I have a hundred falling horsemen, several Antioch Constantius II, zero Antioch Gallus and no explanation for why they seem scarce.
