Thanks. If they were 1 oz silver or something, I might consider it. But it looks like they aren't. That is a terrible deal.

Yes they are 1 oz of silver. The bronze medals only cost $7. This silver medals cost $40 which is $7 less than an uncirculated ASE, but I don't really see any numismatic value for medals like this in the future so unless the price of silver rises dramatically, it looks to be a terrible investment idea.

Oh, duh. It says it right there on the mint page. Thanks for pointing it out.

    They are medals.

And of course they are a terrible investment, they aren't supposed to be an investment.

The one thing that could be a good investment is buying the forgotten presidents. Most people will want the big 10 or so, and maybe their favorite in their lifetime. Having no mintage limit is a plus because that will lower the orders - people order more if it is a limited mintage, they won't order if they think there will be 5 million - see the 1999-S Silver proof set. So James Buchanan in silver might be the sleeper.

Back in 2004/2005 (I think) they did a Nickle/Peace medal thingy. I bought both issues at the time, but I always questioned why they (the mint) didn't mint the medal in silver, rather than 'silver plating' the issue. It was totally deficient to me.

I may pick up a few of these new mint issues..........

I was going to buy the Washington at the ANA show yesterday, but they were all sold. Oh well I saved $39.00.
No, I'm not ordering one from the Mint.
