Hi all, In this thread showing "Mint Error" Coins.. Also Mint Assisted. These belong to Fred Weinberg. He let me take pictures so to share with everyone. Coin #1 - 1C struck onto $1 Sac Coin #2 - 1C struck onto 25 Cent With the prices on the back of the slab.
I was wondering how these coins, obviously struck outside cent collars, could be errors. Do the words "Mint Assisted" in your post explain that? If there's something for us to learn here, please share Paddy.
Were these found in circulation, or smuggled out of the mint? Personally, they don't deserve the astronomical asking prices. Are they cool to look at? Yes. Are they worth anything? To me, no they're not.
They are neat, to a point. I really like the brokage and some of the broadstucks, I like to think a lot are actually accidental errors. The real crazy ones?
The above coins were not struck through cents . . . they were struck a second time by cent dies outside the collar.
If someone used a cent die on an already struck Sac and quarter, that's just ridiculous and not worth anything. These coins should be confiscated and destroyed. Illegal coins, not mint issued/ errors.
I believe the top price is what Fred would have taken if you were paying in Bottlecaps. I would have bought the 2000 1C Struck on the 2000 $1 Sac back then if I knew he was selling it for that price...still looking for it today!
