I've seen a number of comments in the various threads about questionable items for sale on eBay. I also read in horror the problems that highlander had on selling items to eBay buyers. Roy has informed me of other auction sites for coins and I wanted to get your folks opinions on the different sites and the level of problems that have been on them. I have a soemwhat negative perception of eBay only because of what I've seen posted here and I wanted to get your thoughts on it and the other sites.
well, remember that is not the site, is the people there...sellers, buyers...eBay is like a huge store, with a lot of sellers, you just have to take your time looking for the best sellers regarding the items you're willing to buy...Ive never had any problem with ebay regarding buying/selling...my only problem was that someone took over my account and begun to bid on expensive stuff...anyway remember is not the website but the people there...and not everyone are bad, in fact most are not, but as always, bad stuff always spreads fast! I think you should try different websites, and make yourself an opinion about them my 2 cents!
ebay is often said to be just like a flea market or garage sale. there is one big diffrence though with a flea market or garage sale the buyer has the advantage that they view the item and the seller that hes paid cash on the spot. the buyer thus only pays as he recieves and can view it in person, which is very much safer for him. the seller recieves cash on the nail, he dont need to bother worrying about loss or damage in the post or people getting the goods then coming back later and pick pocketing them. Thus ebay is a far more dangerous risky place to do buisness in.Anyone can sign up to be a member of ebay infact i have 3 ebay accounts. They can also close up shop whenever they feel like it leaving buyers high and dry. they can also blame the post use fraudulent credit cards describe something false sell something they dont own not inform of damage bid there items up break into your bank account steal you credit card information then the pitch provider can double charge you fees, freeze you accounts and your money.take money out your pockets, close your auctions, ban you for no reason, and all you need to do to be a part of this is turn up. anyone can open a ebay account, there is no checks and the police are not intrested its seen as a buisness transaction gone wrong and up to the civil courts.unless under certain circumstances and many complaints. [Edited to remove the manual for scamming]
While I agree with what The Highlander has said, it is also possible to trade quite safely on eBay. You just have to take the proper precautions to protect yourself. There are more honest sellers on eBay than scam artists; it's just that the scammers get all the publicity. I have a list of 20 sellers who I do regular business with and have had very smooth, pleasant transactions. If you watch for all of the warning signs and ask questions about anything you're unsure about, you can get some really good deals there.
we also have a big problem that the things we buy and sell are a prime target for the scammers, coins/gold/silver are as good as cash, why bother with swindling a computer or tv when you can swindle something you can sell for full value, that dont have no distiquishing marks or serial numbers, can be sold anywhere in the world very easily, and can fit in your coat pocket. We must be evewn more wary about our purchases than others need to be
ive been self employed since leaving school and i can tell ya its a heck of a lot harder to get swindled face to face and when i know where they live. and even then i have people trying it one sometimes but they can 10x the attempts when its online
A sad state of affairs for the human race, if you think about it.... but that's another topic/forum (?)
