Help with 1955 S Wheat cent ---DDR???

I was cherypicking in some BU lincon cents and came across this one. I looked for help from coneca (greatweb site) for a 1955 S DDR but they have none listed. I took pics tell me what you think! should I send it in?

The "R" in AMERICA looks doubled (not machine) it is rounded in area of question. also the "AME" letters are wider than they should be--should be only as wide as the "I"

    Any error experts out there??

    Thanks in advance!!

---How do you change the thread title? its a 1955 S, 1 keyboard slip up and you cant change it. Oh well I blame it on the keyboard. Why do they put the S and D so close together?

I'm a bit over my head here, but I'm going to render an opinion if for no other reason than to find out where I went wrong in my analysis.

Agreed, not machine doubling. Only the "R" appears to be affected in this manner.

Not DDR. Doesn't have the characteristics of examples of doubled dies I've seen (notching at the end.)

So, what do I think it is?
The thicker letters "AME" and possibly the first "S" in STATES are my evidence.
I am thinking localized die damage.
Not enough to remove it from production, but enough to merit a touch-up in that area (re-cut?)
The touch-up resulted in some letters being thicker, and the "R" was tweaked resulting in the "shelf".

    How did I do?

Man, this one is a toughie. I am no way close to being even a novice at telling doubling, but that doesn't look like Machine doubling to me really. Could be way wrong though. Still, a pretty neat coin to say the least. :thumb: If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay?

    Phoenix,

Came with a collection of wheats I bought at an estate auction, there were 2 rolls of bu wheats and 4900 other wheats--paid 125.00 bucks for them all. People thought I was nuts.
