I just purchased this Aurelian this morning at a local club show. There are not too many ancients there, but one dealer had this one, misattributed as a Licinius. The price for either was about the same and I already have a couple but the condition on this coin is very nice, with a fair amount of silvering and the Providentia Deorum reverse is sharp. Themain reason I am posting this image is that I am trying to master the ability to post photos. I think I need a better phone camera and a steadier hand. I have done a good deal of macro photography with digital SLR cameras (flowers, insects, that sort of thing) but I am frustrated by the camera phone's limitations. Anyway, here's what I have for today as I figure out how to get the crisp pictures you guys get and post.
I tried both with the image on my computer and it worked there, but somehow, when I put them up here, they went back to the smaller size and out of rotation. I think this may have been done by the demon dwelling within my hard drive.
Cool coin!! Instead of holding your phone, lay it down on top of a couple thick books with the camera lens peeking over the edge.
If you are using Windows then :- right click on the image open with -> Microsoft Office Picture Manager Edit Pictures... Select "Crop" Select "Rotate and Flip" as necessary. Remember to Save the file....
I expand, crop, and rotate using google photos. I take my pics with my google pixel phone. I generally edit the photos using my laptop, save them in the cloud, and then right-click on the image and save to the desktop, then upload to CoinTalk.
My first thought is why anyone who has: "done a good deal of macro photography with digital SLR cameras (flowers, insects, that sort of thing)" even thinks of shooting coins with a phone. Phones are for people who do not have or can not understand cameras. Coins are a lot like insects that do not fly away or flowers that do not blow in the wind. Tough love time: I also question why anyone feels it is appropriate to post a photo with 95% blank area and 5% coin. You can call me a bad attitude old grouch but why should two of our members spend five minutes on a project you did not see worth doing that yourself? Phone settings that prevent you from doing what you wish can be changed. Read the instructions. Every phone is different. This is a Samsung Galaxy S8. I have no idea what will work with the thousand other phones out there.
