Only ANACS will slab that, cleaned VF-35 details. what does the winner get?

professional currency grabbing service will not touch that

you do realize if you send these to pcgs the only thing you will get is an empty wallet and body bagged coins

If you're going to ship it out for grading, I'd suggest ANACS.
Then if it HAS been cleaned it still gets a grade.

Otherwise you would have to pay twice to get it graded (once for a body bag, then again for a "DETAILS" grade.)

And as for imaging it (or any other copper coin) I recommend a non-reflective black/dark gray background.
If you don't you tend to end up a dark undecipherable disk that can only be made to show the coin by fiddling with color and contrast.
    Then it looks fake.

If you want a white background image the coin as suggested, then do a circular crop with the background set to white.

geez Im gettin' depressed here...maybe I'll just spend it :(

No, not really, All these pics, really just become a big thing on the computer screen. When you actually look at this coin, along with other red or redbrown early lincolns, it looks like it blends well. Those boys at denver really got their moneys worth out of those dies, Imagine if they had a quota of 30 million coins, we would have 22's that looked like a disc with a bump on the front

Since all my other coins are PCGS, Im giving it a shot. Hey, if nothing else, CLCT will get a few more of my $ and the stock will rise, the economy will improve, the birds will sing and the sky will be blue. :)

Id rather keep it raw than use another grader, just something personal I guess.

I really should do something to generate better photos, funny, I build cameras for a living, and I take bad pictures. But, then again, Im using an iPhone (camera) with a loupe held in a piece of wood taped over the lens! Im amazed it does this good!

Boy, these pictures are all over the place. The 22 is a tough one thats for sure. (probably the toughest in the lincoln series)

I think the coin will slab and come back as AU.

I was taught that you grade the coin from the wear on the coin. I do not see it on this coin. There might be a rub on the chin, but I doubt even that. I cannot argue with calling it AU, but anything less, I do not understand.

Should it be downgraded for its strike? The details are not there, but this is because the dies were over-polished, not because of a weak strike. The details appear to be typical for this date/variety of coin. In fact, if it were die #1 or #4, it might qualify as a strong strike.

As for the cleaning, I cannot argue either way except that I see no evidence of whizzing. However, dipping or others are very possible. The color intensity/white balance of the pictures are definitely not optimized.

Many original Unc 1922-D Cents look plain awful due to the poor strikes. Coins graded 62 and 63 look like they are VG-F pieces. I anxously await the results and hope that the coin isn't bodybagged so that we can see what they grade it.

    An Interesting View..

Here are two pictures of the EDGE. It is squared all around, and seems to be a darker surface (more brownish) than the rest of the coin.

My Grandpa always taught me that was a dead giveaway of a cleaned coin.
He said that most people forgot to clean the edge.

Take it for what it's worth, but I can see it from a novice cleaner.

I truely hope your coin is not, though.

    Good Luck !

Yup, we shall see. Sent it out along with the 1972 DD I found back in '72, the killer perfect 1959 I posted here a week or so ago, found going through a big can of wifes change. A 49D, part of my grandmothers collection, a killer 64D and a 66 which I cherrypicked back in the mid sixties for my whitman. Those two are 67rd candidates I am certain.

Regarding cleaned coins.....I note in the pcgs publication 'rare coin market report', under ungradable coins one of the conditions was coins which "have been abrasively cleaned".....this seems to let the door open for disregarding dipped coins. I always thought 'cleaned' was 'cleaned' but I suppose it is not.
