Collecting in a small town

My town is a population of 7,000
With it being a satilite town (nearby to a larger city with a pop of 40k)
I have very little numismatic influence around.
With one bullion shop with a small amount of numismatic coins
and an antique dealer with a slightly overpriced even smaller display case of low end coins.
Besides online, what else is there numismatically?
Does anyone else live in a one stoplight town and that makes your numismatic range quite small?
    Comments and thoughts please

With it in mind that you would like to consider a numismatic future, could you offer to "partner" with either of the two venues that have coins? Might finance trips to other towns or shows...

It's not all about size. (Where have we heard THAT before?) There are some REGIONS that are just good coin regions. I am lucky to live in one of the best. Probably the only one I know that's BETTER is Chicagoland.

Sounds like my area. No local coin shops. An hour or more in any direction. Unless I wanna go into Pittsburgh. Only place I've found is a local pawn shop.

I live in a small rural town too. And yes, I have the same challenges. I usually get funny looks when I thumb through the lend a penny / take a penny tray in the two convenient stores we have. I have made a few friends at a few of the coin shops down the road (35-50 miles). I don't visit them much but they are always glad to see me. I try to make it to one of the three yearly coin shows around (closest 40 miles..). I apologize in advance but I do a lot of Ebay browsing... Some days I'll just load up and google up two or three coin shops and make a road trip out of it..(that's actually my favorite days) my wife says i'm nuts but that don't bother me any more!!

I live just outside a town with a population of 261. "One Stop light town"?? Heck I got you beat. The nearest traffic light is 70 miles away. Coincidentally this is also the distance to the nearest coin shop from me.

I do spend a lot of time perusing the net looking at coins and have bought quite a few this way. I tend to buy from other forum members though. Either by looking at what they post for sale here on the site, or by going directly to their websites.

    Yeah, I am
    literally one stop light town.
we joke about that we actually have 2 stoplights, if you count the wooden one that was built and painted in 1 park we have. My problem is I'm just way too weary of people too be buying online. I don't trust too well doing it that way

That is quite far away in my future. The Antique guy would consider it I think...

Face it. You are, I am, we all pretty much are. Self-awareness is important.

I found one negative aspect of Harrisburg - no Eagles pre-season TV. Instead I have in the background EVERY string of reserves of the Baltimore Ravens DESTROYING the LA Rams. It's a whuppin'.

I live in a suburban burg where the remodeling of the McDonalds was a big deal. Fortunately, my favorite LCS is down the road in the next suburb. But generally, LCS opportunities are limited in the New Orleans area. Up the highway in Baton Rouge, I haven’t found one yet.

Red Stick has plenty of we buy gold dives but I generally stay out of those. I don’t appreciate some guy that smells of penitentiary looking down his nose at me when I ask to see his collectible coins.

I spent a lot of time stationed overseas. eBay yes, but more importantly, other online sites. I also learned to plan trips that coincided with big coin shows.

Personally, I would see if there are any regional coin shows. Sometimes there are coinshows that can be found on www.coinshows.com that are often within driving distance.
