Too much credit. But I'll tell you this much - if I can get even some educated guesses out of PCGS people, I WILL be ruining a few low value coins testing the ideas out. Occasionally brave coins give the ultimate sacrifice in the search for knowledge.

Actually I thought clashed coins sold at a premium...albeit to a select audience, but at a premium.

 

I’m not among the select, so if I had a clashed die coin, I’d probably try to smoo... HEY!

 

I also posted this in the Ancients section and haven't received many replies. The reason I bought it was to put into a 7070 type presentation and I thought that it looked really nice if you aren't getting too picky. AFAIK, the term "smoothing" in ancient coin talk referred to using some technique to remove roughness from the fields (maybe a new BIC disposable razor?). There is another term "tooling" that refers to the reworking of devices in the fields to strengthen (or in some cases to add) them. Hey, it was $10 or so...
