I came across this quiz on the web which tests knowledge of the various ancient civilizations. 100 questions - a few typos in there but oh well...I got 91 correct. Takes about 25 minutes to complete https://www.proprofs.com/quiz-school/story.php?title=ancient-history-final-test
That link keeps telling me I've won a $1000 Amazon gift card after about 10 questions... I bet I haven't though
There were some strange questions and some incorrect answers. I didn't understand some of them or the answer they were after. Oh well.
There are a few fill in the blank questions and a couple questions that were removed, I guess. Anyway, I found it kind of fun.
It was fun, thank you for sharing it. I enjoy games. I just couldn't get it to work right with the pop up you couldn't go around. Oh well
Some of the questions are awful. Here's an example: Which meso. civilization was lead by Asssurnasipal, possessed chariots and cavalry units, but where taken over by Meades and the Chaldeans. A. Akkadians B. Babylonians C. Kassites D. Assyrians. I was tempted to answer Assyria, but I can't. First of all, the Assyrian Empire never had a ruler named Asssurnasipal. Did he mean Ashurbanipal? If so, yes, Assyrians were ruled by Ashurbanipal. But that brings us to the next problem, the Assyrians were not a Meso civilization. Mesoamerica at that time period was mostly controlled by the pre-classical Mayan city-states....not the Assyrian Empire. Therefore, this question is wrong, and all the answers are incorrect too as a result.
I found a couple of those situations @Sallent. One infuriating one I missed asked about the battle of Salamis with a fill-in blank. I entered "sea" and this was judged wrong, even though it is just as good an answer as the "correct" one. Anyway, yeah it's not perfect.
I believe MesoPOTAMIA was meant. Also Assurnasipal is probably a variant spelling of Ashurnasirpal which was the name of several Assyrian kings. Any time you see Assur or Ashur in front of a name you know it is Assyrian because it is a theophoric name that refers to both the original capital city and the god "Assur". Edit to add: Though I agree the question is strangely worded. I think it was made by a grade schooler to help him/her study. Which is kind of cool when you think about it
Whatever, I still hate Ashurbanipal. This image always makes me teary eyed. Yes, I have a soft side somewhere inside me, somewhere past my shrunken cold lawyer's heart, and way past the cold reptilian blood that all ambulance chasers possess. I can't help but feel sad about the magestic lion being speared, and the lioness lifeless and with her back broken, not to mention the other dead lions left upon the field like trash. Never been a fan of Ashurbanipal since I discovered this image a decade ago.
When making tests, it is always a question of whether spelling 'errors' make a wrong answer. When the subject answer is a word from a language using a non-English 'alphabet' like Chinese, Sasanian, Greek or even Old English, you are faced with transliteration issues. I suppose if you are teaching a class and provided a text which used the spelling you require, you can insist your students learn your spellings but when you are posting an online quiz to be taken by people who know Khusro, Khosrow, Xusro and Anushiruwan are all the same guy, you need to have a more sophisticated answer key.
