Can someone pick up a camera and 3 quarters and demonstrate whizzing, buffing and polishing? Now that would be an awesome video!

Without shamelessly begging for clicks and/or subscriptions? Nah, prolly not. Without using a disturbing synthesized voice? DEFINATELY not.

I would like you to try it in a comparison test and either confirm or refute my claims. I guess I want to make sure it isn't just me that tastes the difference.

So far, the only rum on my bar has been a dark Puerto Rican rum. My gin is British, my vodka is Russian, you get the trend. I really wish I had a Cuban rum.

I think if you take out some of the verbege. I think i get Doug's point. Let's face it. Asking what type of toothbrush is a little to much to ask.

I do get his point, and it's about 90-95% correct. But there are things he states as REQUIREMENTS that are mere TRENDS or TENDENCIES. There is only ONE requirement for it to be whizzing - moving metal to create artificial flow lines to synthesize normal "luster". Polishing DEGRADES and DESTROYS flow lines; it doesn't CREATE them as whizzing does.

There are EVEN multiple grades of nylon bristle. Google (or Bing, as I do) "DuPont nylon types" and read up. Metal brush only? Gimme a break. In my career, I had only been aware of Nylon 6, Nylon 6,6, Nylon 12, and as a substitute with better chemical resistance at higher temperatures, DuPont Hytrel Polyester, oriented and not. Even I was shocked at what new goodies were out there. Lesson? You have to keep up, keep current, not rest on past laurels. The coin doctors keep evolving. Our detection of it must also keep up to date.

By the way, ALL of this, all 7 pages of it, are assumptions pending actually looking at the coin in the hand under pretty high magnification, which presumably, only @C-B-D among us has had the opportunity to do.

    John Skelton Morgan man!

I think I would have been taken, too, with the surface of it just like you were. Given that, and my own learning acquired here, I'm going to be checking coins with a magnifying glass before buying.

His pics. He gets what we used to call in election administration, the "rebuttable presumption of validity".

As a tequila connoisseur I recommend the following.

Casa Noble is fantastic and is a well priced tequila. Their anejo is one of my favorites.

Qui makes a platinum anejo and is one of the few who does it and it’s also great.

Espolon has a great line and they are my preferred Reposado.

If you are looking for a silver - look no further than Fortaleza and Tres Generations.

My favorite tequila is Avion 44 extra anejo.

    Those will keep you busy.

Superb! Now all I have to do is find one that is on the Pennsylvania government-controlled retail list. As long as it has a PA product code number, my local shop can "order one in".

In the early 1970’s when wizzing was the rage, I remember dropping in at the office of one of the biggest mail order dealers that always had “gem unc” coins in his ad at cheap prices. I though I was at the dentists office. He had a large workbench with numerous drills hanging on hooks with wire brushes and buffing pads attached to them. That is where many of great high end circulated coins became blazing bright Uncs.

Look, I don't know where YOU learned logic, but where I learned it, even ONE counterexample makes a definitive statement untrue. I know that upsets people, but it's the way it works. If you mean to say not quite definitive things, throw in an adverb or something.

It's pretty simple Kurt all ya gotta do is go back and read.

As for the difference between buffing and whizzing, and people thinking there is no difference, let me put it into a different perspective for you. Imagine using this on your car -

Now who thinks the results will be anywhere near the same ?

Tomayto, tomahto. Seven pages and other than learning about brands of liquor, you still end up with a "cleaned" coin that collectors deem damaged. I'm sure a professional grader NEEDS to know the subtle differences, but as a collector, I just know it's a damaged coin.

I'm telling you there is a virtual UNIVERSE of options between these two extremes, and NOT ONLY the bottom one results in whizzing. I agree the bottom one IS, and the top one ISN'T, but our dispute is about the universe in between.

And as an exhibit judge, I need a more precise level of knowledge.

    The brush does this -

The others in your universe don't. It's just that simple.

Precisely, but as an average collector I do not.
