    Hi All!

I posted this in the foreign coin section and someone there said I should post here for those interested in error coins!

Large cud on back - I guess this is a semi rare coin so its going off for grading and authentication soon. Mintage run of 150,000. Maybe the die broke and this was the last one minted :)

Anyways - Wondering what this does to the value to an error collector vs. value of a foreign currency collector? Does a cud add value?

    Thanks!

    It's a CUD but I wouldn't call it a Large Cud
Not much of a premium for its size.

Also.. You can get it graded and authenticated. But you need to have the CUD attributed as a Mint Error.

Thank you! I meant "authenticated" more because there are fakes of this coin - But per this reply - When I submit I have to do something special to get the cud notated as a mint error? (I have never submitted a coin) Also, is one service better for a mint error than another?

It will only have a premium to someone who collects this type of error or whatever the market will bear. ANACS is the cheapest way to go but not with just one coin. If sent with others to offset costs, maybe it might be worth it. They are currently running a special to the end of August, code "Insider". Six coins for $66.00 plus four free plus shipping back to you. Attribution, which you would be required to pay for is extra. Check their site for costs and a downloadable form. As paddy said, you need to put "Cud" on the form for them to attribute it and put on the label on the slab. Otherwise they will straight grade it.

That's a nice cud but not worth sending to get graded and verified. Probably a $10-$20 premium to the value of the coin if it didn't have the cud.

And the cost of doing that will most likely wipe out any potential premium value.
And if the coin is already worth a significant premium on its own, the cud may actually reduce its value.

This is the typical problem with errors on rare coins. A person collecting the series wants a perfect coin without errors. And the person collecting errors does not want to pay the premium value for the rare date. Such coins can be almost unmarketable, unless you can find an error collector who is trying to collect the entire coin series with an error on every piece. Such collectors are extremely rare.
