As a result of buzzed bidding on eBay I am now the proud owner of this coin. I am not versed enough in errors to bid too much on them but I guess I entered an extra 0 when I placed max bid the night before went to bed and next day won it for 26 bucks. I am pretty sure the obverse is a broadstrike with partial brockage but the reverse scares me it looks like PMD, my question is what do you all think? Is it possible the reverse was caused by the error on the obverse or did the coin get mangled after it left the mint? These are the pics he provided on eBay the listing said large broadstrike nothing about partial broackage. Even though I made the mistake and bid too high I went ahead and paid like a good eBayer I just wished everyone did the same
Wow. Nice score. I'm not a pro, but it kinda looks like the broad strike caused the plating to split on the reverse, While not exactly eye appealing and having that much of the zinc showing is not good, I do believe it happened at the mint. With that much zinc showing coin conservation is going to be a must. The more this coin is exposed to the elements the more it will decay. This is actually one coin I would consider buying an air tight slab to put it in.
Thanks I was thinking if others thought the reverse was done at the mint I would send it when I get enough coins I consider worthy to be sent to ANACS when they do specials. Usually its 6 or more. I sold several coins I would have submitted while at the Cincinnati coin show that I was reluctant to let go but i'm glad I did cause it helped me get some mercury dimes to add to my set i'm building.
I am not so sure the reverse is post mint damage. I have seen more bizarre and dramatic errors that were slabbed as legit. Lots of weird deformities, scratches, and dents can happen with brockages, off-centers, broadstrikes, and plating errors. Check out this one from my collection on a partial-plating error. Looks like post mint damage, but is not.
Very cool coin you picked up. Awesome that it has the full date and the haunting phantom of the Memorial stretched out on the obverse. Again, pretty sure it left the Mint the way you see it. Looks MS. But what exactly is "buzzed" bidding?
Buzzed bidding is when you've had too many shots of Bourbon and decide to get on eBay, you see way more cool stuff and are lubricated enough to spend more money than you really should
I got the coin in the mail and it turns out what I thought was a deep scratch on the reverse was actually the rim of the coin, when I opened the flip it came off. Should I include it if I send It to ANACS?
