@Murphy45p, I think I needed to add my eye-rolling emoji to be clear I was appreciating your "pretty penny" play. Especially since it gave me an opening to discuss that exact topic in a little more depth. So, far from offended! This just arrived, as expected. The darned thing is too nice for photography. You know those coins that just shimmer in the light, and looking at the surface is like looking at a reflecting pool? Yes, this is one. This is where the stunning eye appeal just transcends concerns about grade. Thanks, @C-B-D, for finding this coin and letting me be its custodian for a while. As usual with my posts, the first image is a full-color JPEG and the second is an animated GIF, which unfortunately does not support the full range of colors. Feel free to expand the first one to see the dazzling colors present in the purple, orange, red, and blue toning.
Shimmy Shimmy cocoa wha' listen to it now Light it up and take a puff, pass it to me now Oh. Sorry. Thought you were bustin' out some Country Grammar by Nelly
What I want to learn, is how to properly photograph coins. I have a few that I'd like to get some input on, but when I take pictures they are either blurry or fail to capture the depth in the strike. I look at the pictures I take to review them, and they aren't an accurate portrayal of the coins. And getting the obverse and reverse into the same picture, I know it's some sort of editor, but I haven't been able to master that yet either. Any tips for a hacker? Please don't say $10k camera...
Murphy, better to start a new thread to ask a question this big. The short answer is to buy Mark Goodman's book, "Numismatic Photography." It's on Amazon and not too expensive. I shot these with a camera I bought for $200 (or maybe $300, can't remember). They're not exactly newPs, but I can't remember if I've posted them here before or not.
What kind of camera? Does it have 'macro' capability? A cheap 'point and shoot' with macro will get you some decent pictures and you can pick a decent one (camera) up for between $100-$200. Welcome to the forum.......
Nice coin, amazing luster, good deal, so I just had to buy it... ...do I need to mention that it looks much better than an average 63?
