Hi All - I am going to be posting a few coins I found in my inherited collection that I pulled out because of value or rarity potential - but no idea the actual grade range - Seeing what is worth grading, etc - and Im still new so sorry if these are dumb questions I believe this is an 1871 5 sen - Sorry for the bad pic - its small and was hard for camera to focus - (The streak on the front is glare from the plastic 2X2) I see these can be a 100$+ coin in VF or better - Wondering if this would qualify in that range? Also - if I can get some picture tips I can take better shots
with the damage on the rim it is hard to determine the grade. I like this coins design. would I get it graded ? No. wait for more opinions...
Definitely not that kind of value unfortunately. Too damaged and worn. Without my glasses, the ability to enlarge further, and with the wear pattern, it looks like it MIGHT be the less common variant. Even so, the value drops precipitously in the <AU condition. The catalog values can be optimistic. That said, it looks like you have a very cool collection to go through though. http://www.starcityhomer.com/5-sen.html
Thanks! I've been neglecting it woefully and really need to finish quite a few sections. The dating page is certainly repetitious of information found elsewhere, but sometimes seeing things described in different ways can trigger a better understanding. I still have a few more variants I'd like to include too. Either I can't find them, or my budget isn't ready to go there yet.
