Yikes! That's brilliant! Even if someone could start this year, ignoring all past years...it would be quite a feat just to keep up with all the new issues that come out, particularly all the different commems. Yes, quite a feat indeed.

    Newbie worries

As a newbie to the hobby This is amazing-
What I see is not only a thing of beauty , but
blood sweat and tears (not the music group for you oldies)
and a lot of investment in time and resources.
Unless you are independently wealthy and have someone to do all your work for you - I commend you for your diligence.
    Well Done!!

I was considering a type set as a future project but I was going to make mine all holed coins. With the stipulation that I could not hole any of them myself. It would cut down the price of some of the coins a bit.

Thats actually a fun set to do... I was getting some loose golden dollars at the bank and the teller found one with a big hole drilled in it. She said she'd put it back and give me another but I told her I'd really like to have it. I doubt I'll ever find another to replace it in my holed type set. :D They think I'm strange at my local bank. :p

I have a friend, who is putting together a "1 coin per country" set.
May not sound like such a big deal, but does anyone realize just how many countries have issued coins?

Great, now I have ANOTHER idea for buying more coins. :D

But it'll have to wait until my set of WWI coins is done.

My "1 per monetary regime" set is a little more ambitious as some countries have had a lot of monetary reforms, but I passed the 350-coin mark quite a while ago, and I'm definitely not even half-way home!

I'm pretty happy with my "one per continent" world coin type set. I can't imagine how long it would take to make a true world type set!

ha now there's a chilling thought... how much room would that take up? Not one for the impatient. :D

Well, I do have an entire bank vault I can use, but still... yikes! Don't think I'm gonna be taking that one on anytime soon!

When we say true World type set, would that be one of every denomination ever minted? Now a real real type set would run from Ancient to yesterday.

I'm working on a World Type Set of one coin and one note from each country. Originally I started with the idea of doing current countries only, but gave that up. I get whatever I can. There are lots and lots of countries who have come and gone. It's fun and not very expensive.

My main goal is to have a copper-based coin from each, but I put whatever I can get into the set and replace it when something better comes along.

I saw a few nice big old copper French coins from Louis XVI's reign going for about $30, well worn but i liked the look of them.
