Take any modern coin design Lincoln Jefferson Washington or Kennedy. They all have had some sort of makeover since its birth. NOT THE DIME!!!!!! Why has the dime never changed?
There are some discussions about some subtle changes, like the 'big head' of 1999. So yeah, there are some differences in the Roosies.
FDR is a well thought of president. He was president during some tough times. He got us through WWII. He got us through the 1929 Recession (with the help of WWII). Sort of like Churchill for the Brits. Might be tough to get the dime redesigned.
I think part of the reason Roosevelt is also on the dime is that he founded the March of Dimes. That being said - same design for 72 years!
How about removing people from our coinage? I would like to see simple designs with eye appeal, like we had prior to 1909.
I always figured the cost of making changes is a big factor for Congress to agree with doing anything.
More likely it is because Congress is the opposite of Progress. Doing nothing is always the easiest. Congress has never been concerned about spending other peoples' money. Changing the designs is a great way to get higher mintages which come right off the national debt. People see design changes and before long they are collecting the older design. Or in the case of the eagle reverse quarter it took 15 years.
I think it being the smallest circulating coin right now along with a design that "works" is enough to leave it alone. The small diameter greatly limits what would be appropriate and "fit" the coin. I would be afraid of what changes they would make in that tiny space or what new design could fill it. That being said as this series is one of my favorites!
Not to sound too political, but there's a lot of fable about how great he was. He didn't get us through the depression, more like had to get us into the war to end the depression. A lot of good info out there to show the true FOR.
The man did great things at a time when it seemed impossible. I really don't think you know to much about the man.
Many times wars are good vehicles for propelling a stagnant or depressed economy into prosperity. But it comes with a cost... lives lost, etc. But the need to 'produce' war supplies is or can be a great employer. Oh, and BTW... my 'question' as answer was a rhetorical one. No president has been perfect. FDR did a lot of good things for our country and he did some things that were wrong morally. One good thing that came from his presidency was term limits for POTUS.
What did he do that seemed impossible? I realize if we hadn't gotten into the war we'd probably all be speaking German, but that's it. Unemployment was still in the low 20 percentile late in his second term. The war got us out of the depression, not his policies.
