I got this 2 dollar bill (I 02751519*) back in change today at a convinent store. I asked the casher if he had anymore, but there were no more in his till. This is the first time I have ever gotten a 2 dollar bill in change, and it's a star note, what are the odds? Funny thing is that about a month ago I got 2 1950 ten dollar bills, one was a star note, from my bank which is right down the road from this store. Something is going on. Or maybe just pure luck. Anyway, what do you all think?
Nice $2.00 note, I think the odds were that the cashier didn't want to have to count it at the end of the shift. It's been my experience that cashiers hate them and like to get rid of them ASAP and you just happen to be in the right spot at the right time. Mom always said things run in 3's John
I can't believe you got a $2 in change. Maybe the times are starting to change. The week before christmas, my wife received three SBA's in change. The cashier did ask to make sure she was OK with them, but it was the cashier that offerred them (as oppossed to spotting them in the drawer and asking for them).
no $2 star notes are 'common'!!! with this note however, it surely HAD to have spent a lot of time in somones wallet. look at them sharp fold lines on the back. Still, its a star, and on a $2 note -- whats not to like
Tommy, I remember your $10 post. Someone is spending some money they've had for a while IMHO. Getting tough especially around the holidays. Gotta wonder what else the cashiers have seen without a clue. Now that's what really hurts.
2003 I star two's are very rare and go for $50 in CU condition. Read more about it here: http://currencyforums.net/view_topic.php?id=218&forum_id=2
I think the note NOS is making reference to is the $2 I (Minniapolis Note) with I-* (W) printed in Washington DC There was also a Block printed out of (Ft. Worth, Tx) block I*- FW The Washington note goes for $50 in CHCU and the FW printed note goes for $15 in CHCU. Check your notes carefully! Yours appears to be a FW..look at or near the lower Right part of the note and you will see the Letter FWxxx (just above the "9" ) in the lower right bottom of the note. Pic is to small to see it..but I can tell there are 2 letters there. Please verify for us. There were only 16000 printed out of the Washington district SN end with I00016000* In 7th edition Schwartz/Linquist The entire 12 FRBanks only printed 16000 star notes each, but only Minniapolis had them printed in Washington therefore the rarity! Regards to all... RickieB
when i buy stuff i use two dollar bills, half dollars and president coins. its cool people always ask me about them and im glad to tell them
Just to note RickieB as far as I can tell all 2003 $2s were printed at FW. Check the print data here: http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2003_b.html Check the official government 2003 $2 star reports here(I'm providing extra proof! :smile): http://www.moneyfactory.gov/section.cfm/2/431/463 http://www.moneyfactory.gov/section.cfm/2/431/464 I think they book for $50 in CU because there weren't that many printed, only 3.8 million total. It appears that all two's from series 1995 to the present have been printed only at FW by the way.
Howdy NOS how are you? Thanks for the links...when I made my statement (having learned from experience) I looked this up right out of my trusty reference book. What I did not say in my post was that all District notes were printed out of Washington with the MInniapolis note being printed out of both locations Washington and Ft. Worth... It seems that the Minniapolis District is the only district to have notes from both locations. Unless the reference book is wrong? Here is a copy of the page from Schwartz/Lindquist book I use...what does not make sense to me is the fact that if the "I" Washington notes goes for $50, why not all the other districts? They all apper to have the same printing amounts?? Could this indeed be a error of the Editor for this book? RickieB
what normally happens in cases like this, is even though the notes were 'printed', maybe some were never realeased OR released only in collectors sets. It 'could' be a typo, but i would lean more to an unknown aspect. What edition of that book are you using RickeyB? Last night i ordered the 8th edition, so if your is an older one, i can check mine when it comes in to see if it was a typo and fixed.
Hello DaggerJohn... It is the 7th Edition...I just ordered my 8th Edition from Amazon as well. Should be here in a few days. Cool cover huh?? Thanks... RickieB
All 2003 $2's have the "FW" mark, both the circulation printings and the extra 16,000 stars per district for collectors. The BEP reports say that all twelve districts' 16,000 stars were printed at Washington. Several folks (me included) contacted the BEP about the discrepancy; the BEP explained that, for the special collector stars, the sheets were intaglio-printed at Fort Worth, then shipped to Washington for overprinting of the serials! On my website, I list all those stars as Fort Worth products, since that's the printing location indicated on the notes themselves. The Schwartz book seems to be following the BEP reports and listing them as Washington products. Take your pick.
