Your guess is as good as mine. I don’t own Hartill, and don’t really intend to. I view my Chinese stuff as a subsection, not a full collection.
Wow, this one is a barn burner!! Great matchup. I agree with the majority on eye appeal (the cash got knocked for lacking patina) and value for money... and also on the close call for historical/numismatic interest! It's a subtle difference in the top character (Chong). 16.400 is scarcer. Mine is a 16.399: Here's the place to look in the top character:
Agreed. Personally, I know a lot about Jay's coin and nothing at all about Milesofwho's. Even so, I tried to vote as objectively and fairly as possible. Good luck to you both!
Wow, despite my bias towards Roman coins over Chinese (only because of my own past collecting experience), this was a tough choice.
Since I don't collect in either of these areas, I'm really coming in as neutral. I am sure both collectors deeply enjoy their material. It will not be the material alone that wins me, but rather the skill with which the owner presents their coin. In this case it is a hands down. Apart from a brief allusion to a mythic tradition, Jay depended upon the appearance of his coin to carry the day. Since my spirit resonates better with graphic images more than calligraphy, he wins the day that way. But the difference in price point between the two, coupled with the historical story and the intricate design details as told by one who knows the material, force me to give the other two points to Miles. From what I'm seeing here, he got more bang for his 15 bucks than the other got for $300. And the story he told has more depth.
I'm about to cast my votes and am quite torn between the two just as others have been. The Domitian Tet seems like a fairly scarce coin and that Ageis is quite a cool feature. I spent some time yesterday evening learning a bit more about Ageis and found this article over at FAC very informative. MoW outlined the history of Huizong pretty well and made a fine case for the Cash coin. Decisions, decisions . . .
What a nail biter this has turned into! We keep swapping the lead! Great to hear how people decide how to vote. Didn't realize how important the "why it's cool" write up is...I could have added more!
I buy Greek and Roman, but so far, it seems I've been giving more votes to Chinese and Byzantine. What's going on here?! Without taking anything away from the excellent coins being fielded, write-ups are clearly playing a big part (more so than in last year's tournament, to my mind). If there's more to say about your coin, anytime before the three days is up is good, and right now, there's still plenty of time for vote changing... and take that boring ol' washer down a notch or two .
This was a tough decision, both great coins! The Roman coin is the one I would have in my collection, since I do not collect Chinese coins. But the Chinese coin calls to me, I really like the calligraphic script!
Holy smokes I didn't think I would have to use this gif in the first round! A photo finish and an extremely entertaining match up! Results #15 @Jay GT4 - 99 Winner #18 @Milesofwho - 95 Jay won voters over on eye appeal with his beautifully styled tetradrachm while Miles convinced voters that his fantastic 10 Cash was a great bargain. The two participants came in at a dead tie the interest category to make this match as close as it could possibly have been. Congrats to both of you and thank you for playing! It's also worth saying that we set a participation record with this match! I keep a spreadsheet that calculates the min. number of people that would have to have voted to come up with the score and we had at least 65 voters weigh in. Good stuff. @Jay GT4 will advance to Round 2 were he will face the winner of the @Ancient Aussie vs @TypeCoin971793 matchup.
Congrats, @Jay GT4 and well played, @Milesofwho! That was a very entertaining round . Thanks, @Curtisimo, for organizing and administrating this complex and fabulous tournament!
Wow talk about a close race!!! Nice job to both entries. Congrats @Jay GT4. Good luck in the next round.
