I recently bought a Nikon D40x SLR camera and have been playing around with different setups and lighting. It is a lot tougher than it looks. The lighting is the toughest to figure out. I have been using a couple 100watt compact flourescent daylight bulbs. They work well, but the placement has a significant impact on the look of the coin. Let me know what you think about the pics and the grades on these coins. Thanks! Click on the pics for a larger version.
i like the detail :thumb: but like you said, the lighting is tough! i am not sure if their might be too much lighting, since the images seem so bright, or if the lite is just inthe wrong place/direction! IMHO however, you got some very nice pics!
The '82 is a 63? No way. The '82 with that scratch is a 61, ALTHOUGH, and here is the catch, the Camera tends to highlight a light broad scratch like that. Ruben
Congrads on that Camera. Those pretty awesome pictures of your coins! I love taking photo's of my coins and recently I brought a very very decent color lasar jet printer, a HP2605dn. It prints my photo's with astonishing clarity and now I have framed photo's of coins hanging in every room in the house. Ruben
All of them have alot of distracting scratches in the facial areas. The 82 has a HUGE looking grease stain in front of Miss Liberties Head. It was the first thing that caught my eye instantly. The 83 has a huge gash that goes from the top of her nose to where her jaw and skull join together. And the 84 has too much "clutter." Scratches in front of Miss Liberty, and alot of "grease" on her face.
Thanks for the comments everyone! I agree that there are a lot of marks on these three coins. They are harder to see in person than in the pics. The eye appeal in person is pretty good on each coin. So, low MS grades on each (61-63) is the concensus?
I would agree low MS grades - just remember sometimes the picture high light flaws or in this case bag marks on the coins. All in all those are nice coins.
Ruben, I hope you got your' coins locked away in a safe place! If not, then I hope no burglars are peeking in your windows! Frank
There safe enough. Their are 8 people living in this house. Good luck finding a time when noone is home. Aside, Guilliani got rid of all the burglers, and the armed drug gangs. Ruben
I'd guess MS63 (or possibly MS64) on the first coin and MS 62 (or possibly MS63) on the other two. Cesariojpn, the flaws you mentioned are being magnified significantly by the large images and almost certainly are far less obvious and distracting in-hand.
nice coins and camera...might want to change lighting. Otherwise coins are great value per PCGS web site.
