My sister just handed me this "charm" bracelet that belonged to my grandmother before she died several years ago. Neither of us had any idea what this was, besides old... I did a google search and learned about the 1652 Pine Tree Shilling. Someone obviously attached this to a bracelet, and I can't imagine someone doing that to a real pine tree shilling...but never the less; I thought I'd get some people's opinions about this. It would be somewhat typical of my grandmother to have a real Pine tree shilling just dangling off her wrist and not tell a soul... I hope the pictures a adequate. And thank you in advance for any opinions or advice.
Off hand I don't see anything that says fake, But there are some good fakes out there. It has been cleaned IMO. There will be more folks posting so be patient. Welcome to CT.
I have seen this exact copy before. Look at the loop. Its the same metal as the "coin". It is simply a jewelry fake IMHO. Still, its precious to you because it came from your grandmother, nothing wrong with that.
My instinct says it was a replica specifically designed to be jewelry. Perhaps better clear close up photos of both sides and the colonial collectors will be able to tell more definitely.
I came across this website when trying to research a coin i found. I would appreciate any info anyone could provide. Thank you
