Been pretty busy with other activities lately, and haven't been able to do as much in coins as I'd like, but below are some of the newps I've been able to drum up. I bought a premium quality 1911 Quarter Eagle in PCGS MS62 . . . very few distracting marks for a coin of this type, although there are some small deposits of green slime in protected areas that conservation could harmlessly remove. I bought the @BigTee44 pedigreed 1874-S dime in NGC AU55 CAC . . . A 1927 Quarter Eagle with retained cud error, graded MS63 by ANACS, which @jwitten ought to appreciate . . . A nice raw VF / XF 1915-S buffalo nickel . . . A scarce 1906-D Double Eagle in a PCGS MS63 holder . . .
This almost qualified as an impulse buy. Saw it late Sunday on Great Collections all forlorn and with no bids. Did some price checking and figured the minimum bid wouldn’t be shoddy. Got it!
Well, that was the original criticism of the gold issues — they didn’t fully detail. A proof Mercury dime is still the way to go!
Tiny obverse lamination adds to the cool factor on this one. I just wish the obverse was as light as the reverse. This one sat face down for a number of years, I'd guess. PCGS just recently (past few weeks) added a price guide value to this variety, but IMO it's too low at $775. Rick Snow bought my last one in this grade for $900 and listed it for $1250 on his site, if memory serves.
Started a thread on this one but wanted to post it here as well. It replaces the one in my type set, the second images.
