I checked the Coin Star reject tray today at my local Safeway and made this find, my first silver. 1962dwash.jpg 1962dwash1.jpg

Thanks, I was returning four boxes of pennies to my bank in the Safeway, the boxes had produced nada, so at least CoinStar paid off.

I was reading through this thread and realized there was a coinstar across the street. At Wal-Mart. I went to check it out and found the reject slot with coins in it. At first I was reluctant to take it but curiosity and greed got the best of me. .69 cents but no silver. Did get 2 1965 times though. :joyful:

You might need to explain to the youngsters what a phone booth is.

Not just for making phone calls - in the 1950's, an empty phone booth was a challenge :p

In 5th grade I got sent to the office. I had nothing to do so I am sitting there eating pistachio nuts. I had no where to put the empty shells, so I jammed them all into the coin return slot of the pay phone near where I was doing my hard time in Knuckle City. A short male teacher comes down to use the phone. His call doesn't go through, and he is digging through all the pistachio shells to get his dime back. He was furious, and it was freaking hysterical.
I was trying to hide my red stained fingers, but he busted me anyway.
It took Sherlock Holmes to solve that case.
I didn't get in trouble for it. But he was spitting blood.

I watched the 1950's George Reeves Superman on a vacuum tube television and wondered what happened to all the suits left behind in the phone booths? He must have had a big clothing budget.

The pistachio shells in the coin return, very antisocial behavior.

Quarter and penny on the grill, nickel and dime in the slot.
