    I was wondering ...

I received an email from an apparent old relative in Russia of which wants to transfer the gold to the US and I get to keep 20% of it. I just need to send them my credit card number to confirm that I am their relative.

In the old old days .. you transport gold via war vessel to protect it.

Most likely the ship which was part of a fleet which left St Petersburg in the Baltic Sea heading to the Pacific Ocean to fight the Japanese Navy might have been the ship carrying the gold needed to purchase supplies along the way as well as to pay for the men on the fleet as well as those already at Port Arthur. This a large amount of gold might be on a single ship. The limited amount of information I have been able to glean so far is that the ship was kept out of the battle, only coming under fire after the main Russian fleet was destroyed by the Japanese. Later because of damage received the ships crew was taken off and the ship scuttled. However no reference in Wikipedia about the ship carrying gold.

The Russian warship, Dmitri Donskoi, carrying gold worth, allegedly, £100 billion, recently discovered off coast of South Korea, sunk in naval battle 113 years ago. The battle was in Russo-Japanese War 1904-1905, 27-28 May. Russia suffered a decisive defeat, and the war was soon ended, in Japan's favour. The battle, with the armoured cruiser, and other ships, was off the island of Ulleungdo. This information is largely from the Express, and you will also get enormous amounts of info by googling The Battle of Tsushima.- The South Korean treasure-hunting company, Shinil, hopes to make a museum about the sunken ship. Losses had been, for the Empire of Japan, 117 dead, and for the Russian Empire 4,380 dead. Such a disaster for Russia would have helped fan the flames of the Bolshevik Revolution.
