Worth to be third party slabbed?

    Hi guys,

I think this Quarter Gold Eagle is borderline to be graded and slabbed from a reputated third Party Grading firm like PCGS and NGC.
It's a somewhat scarcer year with a low mintage but otherwise AUish...

    What would you do?

    Thanks with best regards

Looking at the dealer Greysheet, I would say keep it raw unless you want to preserve it in a slab. That coin does not seem to get much of a value bump until you hit MS61.

    V. Kurt Bellman Yes, I'm blunt! Get over your "feeeeelings".

Due to factors that don't really exist for other metals, my personal belief is that all classic U.S. gold is slab-worthy, if for no other reason than to authenticate.

send it - looks to be a good candidate for TPG conservation to improve the eye appeal ;)

    Quite a few rim dings.
Possibility it could come back as a DETAILS coin.

coin looks like it has some circulation (not a MS coin) so it would be just a generic classic gold worth a modest premium. Spend $30+ dollars to get it slabbed, and it is worth the same modest premium. You've basically invested $30 in a plastic holder for it with no increase in value. It would increase it's marketability but you will still eat the $30.

Crusty original I love the surfaces I’d grade it au 55 but I’m not sure if the rim damage is because it’s ex jewelry I’d try it though and if it came back details I’d crack it back out. Being slabbed really helps marketability I feel
