hey guys I just received a 20 dollar bill that looks a bit odd. The top is missing the small white strip but doesn’t seem to effect the strip on the back so I’m assuming it was a printing error. If someone can clue tell me what it is and what it might be worth id greatly appreciate it!
There is variation in how much a note is kept within the margins due to the old school intaglio printing process that is still used in the printing of U.S. currency. The margin alignment on the back is not necessarily going to match the front. If you took a stack of currency of the same denomination (especially of the same series) and examined the notes from the front, you would see all kinds of variations and fluctuations in the placement of the serial numbers, the green seal, district numbers (for pre-1996 notes and one and two dollar bills) and the overall placement of the design of the note within the margins. For what you're asking about to be considered an error or misprint, at least some of the design would need to be missing. All of the design is there so it doesn't count as an error.
