i am a young collector and my uncle(whenever he comes up from iowa he brings me some coins that my other uncle had collected in the 70's among what he brought up for me was a roll of beutiful 1969 s cent they looked untouched when i opened them up and moist if not all are bu and myu question is how much are these worth in terms of value
Its a long shot, but check for the doubledie on those 69S. One fellow found one in october, in a bank roll, estimate is 100K value.
The odds are probably better that you'll get hit on the head by a meteorite but get out a magnifying glass and see if any of them look like this...
Long shots HAPPEN As a teen in 1972 I went on the double die hunt, getting rolls of both unc. and circulated coins from the bank. One hot evening in the summer, with pennies spread out all over my bed.....THERE it WAS! Ran out to my dad, who was sitting in the living room reading the paper...DAD! I FOUND ONE!!! Well, he gets out his loupe...and agrees! So, you CAN find these gems out there.....BTW, I still have it!
I assume you're not talking about the 69-S DDO, but, just in case you are, read the forum Terms and Conditions, you're now obligated to post us a pic, or at least a scan. Just kidding, of course (but of course it would be real gentlemanly of you!).
Yes it was a 72 DD. I may submit this to PCGS, to join my other slabbed redheads. There are two fingerprint traces on it, but I think it will grade MS65RB. I just went through two big bags of change, and came up with a stunning 1959, Id not be surprised if if would grade MS67RD.
Well, a guy can hope, can't he? Still, very nice, especially in those grades (and how you came by them is the real enjoyable thing...way to go! :thumb.
You'll want to also look for gems. High grade coins can bring some pretty high prices now days. Look for coins with little or no marking and strong strikes. It's not likely there will be one. I understand that such rolls have been bringing some strong prices on eBay recently. This applies especially to the zinc coins though.
I do have a 2006 Satin Finish in MS70RD (pcgs). Now, a shiny penny is a shiny penny but **DAMN** that coin is amazing. It looks fake, like a computer generated image, since it is just so perfect. Today I 'louped' every super nice cent I came across, and every one had a defect(s). The 1959 I just found, that coin has the sharpest strike on the rear I have ever seen. Too bad but I do see a few minor nicks on the obverse, so maybe not that 67, but a lock on 66. One of the jars of coins I searched was pennies put away by my late father in law. None newer than 1991. So I took the opportunity to cherrypick a roll of 1989 and 1990's. It is amazing how bad BAD some of these zinkers are aging. One little nick into the coating, corrosion sets in and eats it up.
