Really nice response to my question.

I asked this guy (COINMADZ) if he knew if the coin (320200301428) , a 1926 Peace $ BU/MS, was cleaned. He responded:

"Most people in life feel that they are right and the rest of the world is wrong, you are one. Anyone who would claim a coin was not cleaned in its 100 year history is eather a fool or a lier, I am neither."

:eek:dd: I feel this guy is an idiot (and a bad speller) or so new to human curtesy that he should be denied any comerce on ebay. I wouldn't buy a 1933 gold double eagle at melt from him. I'm not sure what exactly set him off for a basic question about a common coin.

Maybe he's just given away the fact that he's ignorant and trying to get more for his coins than they are worth. (To put it nicely).

I'd keep away from this seller and watch what he's up to in the future.

    Bruce,

I often find that when I ask a question like yours I get a similar response. Sometimes out of ignorance on the seller's part and most times (I believe) because they know that people other than your run of the mill moron is watching.

Sounds to me like you called his bluff and a defense mechanism kicked in. How DARE you point out the truth! ;)

I would lose very little sleep over his response.

i do understand what you are saying but he does have a point that it is extreamly rare for a coin to be uncleaned/dipped for 100 years but he had no right to say that to you like that

I won't lose any sleep over his coin. Geeze, it's a COMMON coin that I can buy at any dealers place or order thru a Coinworld advertisement with no hassle.

I'm tempted to buy it so I can leave Neg feedback. (Just kidding)!

Is ebay turning out to be a site where you can: expect a grade or 2 lower, expect much less, don't trust the seller, hope to get your $s worth kind of place?

For many people who can't get to a dealer or coin show often, there has to be someplace that these people can rely on. Mail order is also buy before you see. The last coin I returned cost me $4.50, sent to me plus $2.22 back for my paypal refund. I'd rather be right the first time.

We just have to do our homework before putting out our money for unseen items. The answer may just be to "not buy "sight unseen"."

That Ebayer sells badly over-graded coins and prays on the uninformed. In one sense, I am sorry you were treated rudely, but if it causes you not to be taken advantage of by him I'm glad for it.

That's where graded coins are nice, the two or three top graders will know it's cleaned. It would be nice if you could get a modern grading fee on the older coins.

well lots of times the graders will not Bodybag a dipped coin if you consider dipped cleaning

If you think that one is bad, look at the 1899 Proof Barber quarter, labeled PR-67.
Could be a Proof 60-- maybe, in a bad light.
Anyone who sells NAC graded coins knows what he is doing.

You just have to understand the mentality of many individuals on ebay. For one thing why would he even bother to answer you? Why write statements like that? Why waste time in life with what is considered the necessity to answer. You may well be dealing with a person that is just one of the mentally ill people on ebay or all over the world.
I myself think everyone is a little nuts except me. And many times I wonder about myself.

AT COINMADZ YOU ARE TREATED LIKE FAMILY!

Maybe he meant MISTREATED like ABUSED family. :D

I keep reading horror stories about rudeness from vendors. I personally have never experienced anything objectionable. I think folks have been very polite - in person at shows and shops, online correspodence, customer service at TPGs... never a problem.
