The latest upgrade to my Seated Liberty Half Dollar collection. PCGS slab. Yes, the photo isn't the best.
Not one guess hit the nail on the head. Maybe PCGS is slipping? Before the slab, here is a shot of the specimen it replaced:
I was going to guess VF 35 originally but after a more careful look thought the details were stronger. I think the coin looks XF and PCGS may have been slightly conservative on this particular example.
35 may be under graded a little, but a straight grade is better than a details grade. I had it XF details (cleaned). Nice coin, and a HUGE upgrade.
Gilbert, you are a wise buyer because you bought the coin and not the holder. I also buy the nicest coins for the least amount as I can...the nicest example I can find in a lower grade is always more rewarding than an equal or even less attractive example in a higher grade for usually much more money. I try to compare the coin I like with many examples before making my choice. When I decide to sell my collection, I might actually have a chance to break even. I also enjoy an occasional upgrade if it's worth the money...sometimes an upgrade can be very rewarding.
