    Is this a common error? New to the coin world. I just started going through my Grandfathers coin collection. Is it worth anything...? Thoughts.. No E in pluribus unum

    looks like grease filled die, common to the extent, value is close to face.

    Welcome to CT!!!

    This is actually quite common.

    They grease the dies before use and whoever cleaned the excess grease off this die left a little too much in the E of EPU. So much grease that it caused the E not to show up on some coins like yours.

    Most of the time it add no value unless a lot of the devices are missing. Still a fun find though.;)
