Mr. Weinberg, I couldn't find the one, that sold for $1,000 on eBay, that you had mentioned sold a couple of months back? Do you have the link to the one that sold on eBay a month or two back. I'd like to compare it to the one I have here, but couldn't find it.
Welcome to CT!! Nice find! I didn't know there was such drastic doubling on the modern quarters. Good to know to look out for these.
Not an error coin? This is a great doubled-die piece, and one of the best errors of the State Quarters series. Didn't you see that Fred Weinberg said the last AU sold for $1000.00?
Yes sir, I did. I was very fortunate, to have the opportunity, to speak with Mr. Weinberg, about a month ago in regards to this coin.
And Fred will tell you, it's not a error coin . It's a variety coin . The cherrypickers guide is a variety book . Not a error book .
Someone that thinks of errors like I do. An error is something that shouldn't have been issued - unplated planchet, clipped planchet, double-denomination, etc. 1955 doubled die is a variety like a 3-Legged Buffalo nickel.
An non-plated planchet, clipped planchet and double denomination are errors. The 1955 DDO cent is a variety. The 37 D 3 legged buffalo is neither an error or a variety, it's a die stage.
Correct, but I'll bet if you asked coin collectors what the most famous error coin is, those two would be mentioned more than half the time. Like they say, say something long enough and it becomes the truth, even if it isn't.
No offense, Paddy, but I hope you jumped all over it (if the same variety) at a mere $25 or even a few multiples of that. I certainly would have, even if only rolling the dice. Perhaps things have changed over the last six years or so, but there was a time that even an example in this condition would have easily brought significantly more than that..
