it looks like the man is missing the tip of his nose. What is the correct term for something as such?

PMD... look closely and you'll see metal moved around the hole, making a Volcanic caldera. If this had happened during minting (struck through), the surface around the divot would be flat.

    Always look for moved metal...

Lol. I’m learning so everything I see I get excited. I have yet to find a true error but I haven’t given up hope yet.

  11. Y'all know the oft quoted lines about how…

    You can pick your nose,
And you can pick your friends,
But you can't pick your friend's nose!

That fella's nose looks like his friend tried to pick it,
And did a bloody awful job of it.

…Then again, it just might be an unusual nose ring.

    It's a bag mark

    (aka "contact mark')

  13. Just what I said, Fred… his friend tried to pick his nose and left a bloody awful contact mark. Lol.

May I trouble you to elaborate about the difference? Do you mean that there is some sort of "circular mound" around the hole (for PMD)? Thank you for the help and education.

Pretty much - the metal has to go somewhere. But unlike say sand it is a solid mass... whatever did the damage pushed it away...
