My dad past away & had a trunk full of sewn shut bags of 1977 Denver mint pennies. Trying to figure out most logical thing to do with them. Ideas?

Open the bag and search for Mint Errors.. Off Centers, Blank Planchets, Clipped Planchets, Die Breaks etc.

After turning the bag inside out, and check the seam for fragments, bowtie errors, etc.
Basically it's just $50 but there could be something cool in there.
There could be a few high MS coins.
    Let's see some photos.

I would look for high grade coins. I checked some auctions for MS-67 coins, low of $164 to a high of $282. In PCGS plastic.

And definitely keep the bag! That’s cool in itself. Hope you get some beauts!

Very cool! Put the trunk somewhere and forget about it for a few decades.

Are you sure the bags are Mint-sealed and undisturbed? Maybe your Dad hid something more valuable in the bags.

Or maybe something hidden in the trunk itself -- under the bags, in a false bottom, documents in the lining.

That is, maybe the pennies true purpose is dead weight -- to prevent one person from stealing the trunk.

I have seen empty mint bags be collectible. Would a sealed mint bag not be collectible? Even if its contents are a common date?

In a few years people will figure out all the mint set coins are tarnished and the mint sets are almost all gone anyway and even nice choice coins might get a good premium.
