Unusually thick and heavy flan on this one from the Antioch mint. It's interesting because it's dated -- the PXV in the exergue is short for TR P XV. Post anything you feel is relevant. Gallienus, AD 253-268. Roman silvered billon antoninianus, 4.25 g, 21.3 mm, 11 h. Antioch, AD 267. Obv: GALLIENVS AVG, radiate and cuirassed bust, right. Rev: FIDES AVG, Mercury standing right, holding purse and caduceus; PXV (=TR P XV) in exergue. Refs: RIC 607F; Göbl 1667k; Cohen 219; RCV 10212; Hunter p. lxx.
Nice. I like the overall look of it. Here is my heavy one. Gallienus (253 - 268 A.D.) AR Antoninianus O: IMP C P LIC GALLIENVS AVG, Radiate and cuirassed bust right. R: IOVI CONSERVA, Jupiter standing left, head turned right, holding scepter in right and thunderbolt in left. 5.1g 24mm RIC 143F (Rome) Sear 10237 Heavy for type.
here's another PXV Gallienus A.D. 267 Ӕ Antoninianus 20x21mm 3.4gm GALLIENVS AVG; radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from rear. LVNA LVCIT; Luna standing right, crescent on head, carrying long torch. In ex. PXV RIC V Antioch 609 and a different example of a date-- VIIC in the exergue means that this coin was issue during the seventh and last consulate of Gallienus; which began in A.D. 266. Gallienus A.D. 266- 267 Ӕ Antoninianus 20x21mm 3.6gm GALLIENVS AVG; radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from rear. IVBENTVS AVG; Gallienus in military attire standing left, upright spear in left hand, Victory in right hand. In ex. VIIC RIC V Antioch 615
Wow! That is a heavy one! Well-struck and on a big flan, too! Great examples of how the mint in Antioch dated the coins this way!
Cool coin!. Man, Mercury has been working on those abs I can tell, but I think he needs to spend some time on those noodle arms and legs!
A bit of a pointy chin on this PXV with Virtus as well. GALLIENUS Silvered Antoninianus. 3.72g, 24mm. Antioch mint, AD 267. RIC 612; Sear 10403. O: GALLIENVS AVG, radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. R: VIRTVS AVG, Virtus standing right, holding shield and spear; PXV in exergue.
