I always immediately look at my change from a purchase from anywhere. I found this today! Hopefully something rare
What makes you think that is a striking error? How about a clear picture of your Quarter on a flat surface. No finger and not upside down.
Why are you even asking for opinions when you know for a fact its a striking error? Send it in to PCGS, get it authenticated and attributed. Probably worth thousands at least.
the scrap shows a brighter area than the area around it. Which shows it's newer than when the coin was minted. Also from the rim is a scrape headed right towards it. Looks like it pushed metal to the inside end of the scrape which looks slightly lifted …. damage.
I am simply asking if anyone has ever seen anything like this ! I’m am not on here to see idiotic comments.
Be sure to keep touching your coins with your fingers. The oils on your skin will help to preserve the surface of the coin.
At the top of the rim is Edged off, I noticed that the space between the B and the E is . Also the T is aligned with the top of the rim. I see your point with the scrape, however, that wouldn’t have created damage to look like two digits were struck between the 6 and another after. Can you elaborate a bit more please?
Yes, as you stated … "looks like" although it is not. the scrape after the last 6 is an older scrap as it is toned over. If you can follow the entire history of the coin then you can confirm what would happen to it over it's lifetime of 52 years of circulation. This comes down to how dies are made and used. There is no other numbers there. Just imagination and the desire for it to be different and special. I can flip the question and ask you to explain how those would be numbers? As to me, they certainly do NOT looks like numbers, just damage.
I mean , logically you would think that damage from a press would be considered an error? Am I wrong?
Here we go again- Lets not chase the newbie off huh? Newbie, i see damage down by the rim right smack dab underneath this extra number (Between the 6s correct?) That indicates to me, that the coin has taken a hit and its not an extra number. Further more, this extra number would hafta be raised metal, to be considered an error. Your "extra number" appears to be incused, ya know like a scratch or gouge would be. FYI the photos are out of focus so it makes it tough to confirm either way. Im basically echo-ing what clawcoin said in post #7. Damage
Yes, you are wrong. You don't understand the minting process. You don't understand what PMD means. You don't understand how to hold a coin. You don't understand how to take a proper photo of a coin. But you are positive it's not damage and you are positive it's a "striking error", even after numerous coin experts have told you otherwise. So send it in to be graded & authenticated. Prove us all wrong.
