Wondering if any of you guys have seen anything like this before? If so what might have caused it? Doesn't look like your typical die crack that I've seen. Thanks.
It's not a die crack. It's part of the result of all of the corrosion on the surfaces of your cent. See the rim damage on the lower left side - around 7-8 o'clock; the coin might have been damaged in that areabefore the corrosion, but in any case, it is not an error of any type.
First thanks for your time Mr. Weinberg. The mark coming off the bottom of the u in trust just looked perfectly raised with a loop at the end and was thinking the working die may have been damaged by something. I was always under the impression that if it was raised on the coin the problem was in the die itself?
That's correct, except in cases where damage, corrosion, environmental damage, etc. etc. etc. can leave raised metal on the surface. Call me Fred, please - every time someone calls me Mr., I think they're addressing my father!
