If you like looking through halves, try one of your local casinos. Even though most of them have gone to TI/TO, some still pay off on blackjack with coin. eg. $5 BJ pays a 5 chip, 2 dollar chips and a half dollar. Others will use a 5 chip and a 2.50 chip. If they pay in halves, the casino has to keep a lot on hand. I can usually get $50 to $100 in rolls per visit. I haven't tried for other coins, but I'm sure that they would be available. Good Luck. :thumb:
Other than banks and casinos there are always mixed date rolls of wheat cents for sale at your local coin shop. If you look in any coin magazine there are mixed date rolls of anything from cents to Morgan dollars for sale, but, I'm assuming that you're looking to buy rolls of current coins at face value. In that case, I'd say the bank or casinos are the only options I can think of.
Definitely Casinos. Last time I was at one they had half dollars, and stupidly, I saw the dealer with a half dollar that had a liberty bell on it - for some reason, I didnt think anything of it (probably because I'd seen so many). Then a few days later I realized that was a Franklin Half!! doh! :desk:
I never said I didnt have any banks. The bank is a relatively obvious place to get rolls. Thats why I said in my OP to give places other than banks.
If you're into quarters, just go to any change machine. Otherwise, I think the only place where you'll get them at face is the bank. I've asked at Target and Walmart and the cashiers can't do it. Maybe if you go to customer service. But, I think the bank would be easier
You may want to try banks near retirement communities. The retries may have older coins that they have pulled from circulation (like silver coins) and since they are on a fix budget when they need extra cash they may just roll those old coins and take them to the bank. Lou
Where my daughter work there was a retirement community near by and when they would get rolls from the bank for their daily cash transaction they would find older coins. One day they came across some rolls of BU silver quarters, buffalo nickles and wheat and Indian head cents. My daughter gave me 2 rolls of the BU quarters 3 rolls of wheats with some indian cents mix in a some buffalo nickles. The other employees got the rest. Lou Lou
