5 Kopek, 20th Century Czarist Russian copper.

It will take someone with more expertise than I possess to identify it as (probably) either Y#12.2 (1911-12) or Y#12.3 (1916-17).

Catalog value? In the $10-100 range.

    Thank you everybody.

About what I expected. This is a 1873 and pretty worn so I think I better put it back in the album for another century or so:smile

What leads you to that conclusion?
    • The double-headed eagle has traditionally been either Russian or Austro-Hungarian.
    • The legends are in cyrillic characters.
    • The denomination is clearly in "Kopeks".
    • The coin had already been identified as Russian by two people more than 20 minutes before you posted.

    Definitely from Russia.
5 kopeks, copper. Minted during the time of czar Alexander II.
According to the Krause World Coins catalog, it's probably worth $2-$5 in that condition.
