Not sure how you could get 1823 out of this...1828 AFAIK

Looked more like a 3 than an 8 to me.

AFAIK = As Far As I Know

@Kentucky is looking at the new auction, not the coin you were referring to. Your coin (if you bought it) looks like an 1823 to me as well.

    It's a 1828. Large, wide date.

1823, not sure what the difference in price is, but the original coin is corroded all to H - E double hockey sticks.

To my eye, star locations are off to the normal date 1823, date position is off to the overdate; just my "2-cents".

Check out this link and scroll down to the two 1823 varieties. On both of them, the position of the D in UNITED and the leaf beneath it are different from your coin (they may actually use the same reverse die). So your coin is not an 1823 unfortunately.

I think this coin raises a valid point. It isn't in that a "worn" condition, but it is not attractive. What can be done to increase the attractiveness?

not the coin in question, that's the ebay redirect auction's coin. See my image above for the coin in question.

When you click on the OP's link for the coin, click on the "listing" link in the blue bar:

and that will take you to the auction which has ended.
