The question i have is what makes a bie coin is it a die chip or a die crack? I always thought it was a die crack.
There can be die cracks between the letters of LIBERTY as a precursor to a break. They were called connects "back in the day" when the BIE Guild existed. There can also be die cracks running off the tops or bottoms of letters in LIBERTY. They were called antennas.
Connects are a section in the 1969 edition of “THE CLASSIFICATION AND VALUE OF ERRORS ON THE LINCOLN CENT” by Jean Cohen. In her book they are die cracks between the numbers on the date and mint mark on Lincoln Cent. This is a must have book if you are a Lincoln Wheat Cent collector. This is a very hard book to find. Here is a link to the Hardy Index System found in the BIE Handbook. http://cuds-on-coins.com/hardy-index-system/ The BIE MINT ODDITY COLLECTOR”S GUILD was founded by Joseph F. Bush in 1965. The “BIE Handbook” Edited by Howard O Hardy as published in 1972 for the Guild. Also a very hard book to find. If you are an ANA member you can check these books out of the ANA Library.
