I was perusing a local coin/jewlery store last week when I spotted this error coin in the 1 cent display case. The price had me in surprise, but then remembered that I had not bought myself a birthday coin yet this year. Decided I could splerge a little and this one being minted in my birth year, it just must be fate and I should get it. So I did. It does have a very ugly bag mark right on the Memorial steps, which knocks it out of a Full Steps Grade, but it is what it is. I'm glad it was not slabbed, which probably would have made it more expensive than what I am able to pay. I now consider it to have been a very lucky day indeed. Thanks for looking, and I hope everone had a safe and happy holiday.
I don't see any evidence of the Blakesley effect, which doesn't mean much, but the letters right where the "clip" appears do not seem to be faded toward the gap. This would be one to see what @Fred Weinberg might say.
Did I miss something funny? darn I always miss the fun stuff lol j/k @alurid all I see with the photos provided is PMD. In the future it helps if you take the coin out of the flip before taking pictures.
The best I ever did was a clipped IHC for $0.25 because the seller said someone took some sheers to it or something...
I took it out of the flip. got photos of the clip and Blaksley's effect. What is what I said! Yes its at 90° from the clip.
That's not the Blakesley Effect at 'TR' - it can't be, because the BE is always opposite the clip area. There is a minute disc clip at the TR.
Wow, Thanks Fred. I could not figure out how that could be, I got several clipped coins, and all show 180° BE.
