I wrote a couple of months ago that I'd just gotten my first Pupienus. (I wish I was mature enough to write that without smirking.) I've been waiting to add it to my online collection (http://feltemp.com/Emperors/Emperors_Page1.html) until I could find an affordable (by my standards) Balbinus to go with it. This coin just arrived in the mail today, and I'm very happy: Balbinus Augustus, A.D. 238 Bronze Sestertius Rome mint, A.D. 238 Obv: IMP CAES D CAEL BALBINVS AVG Rev: CONCORDIA AVGG - Concordia seated, facing left, holding patera and cornucopia. SC in exergue. RIC 22 28mm, 19.8g.
Great coin! Both Balbinus and Pupienus are still missing in my collection. I hope someday to get one with these conditions.
Nice one. I'm missing the Pupienus. When I eventually get one, I wouldn't mind a hefty sestertius either. BALBINUS AR Antoninianus. 5.1g, 24.1mm. Rome mint, AD 238. RIC IV 11. O: IMP CAES D CAEL BALBINVS AVG, bust of Balbinus, radiate, draped, cuirassed, right. R: FIDES MVTVA AVGG, clasped right hands
Congrats! Balbinus is one I never got. I did have a Pupienus. (That sounds like a personal hygiene problem, doesn't it?)
Congrats @gsimonel on the difficult to capture! Balbinus: RI Balbinus 238 CE AR Denarius 20mm 3.7g Rome Laureate draped cuirasses - Victory wreath palm RIC 8
@gsimonel I remember your Poopyanus post! Great coin that you found! Pupienus: Pupienus AR Denarius 3g IMP CM CLOD PVPIENVS AVG laur bust - CONCORDIA AVG, Concordia std throne patera double cornucopiae Seaby 6
What a beauty! A big ol hunk of rare emperor that would make any collector proud. Mines just a piece of...well just a piece, literally!
Decent showing for this emperor. And an impressive website, which I had not seen before. Congrats on both. I noticed that your Pupienus is in silver. Since I don't collect before the first Tetrarchy in bronze (all ants are silver) here's a group in silver: Balbinus denarius: Balbinus antoninianus: Pupienus antoninianus (showing its age, I'm afraid): Pupienus denarius: haven't gotten one yet.
Great addition @gsimonel ! I would show mine...but I don't have. I happen to like the sesterti (?) very much. Nothing more pleasing than holding a large ancient coin.
